Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a difficult year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-term trainer Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's first trophy since the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from spring of 2023.

Victory also signifies he has won 21 championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a title is really nice," said tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, comprising in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular reactions on court had caused observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was concluded.

However the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

He saved four early opportunities in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
