US Military Targeted a 'Large Complex' in Venezuela, President Trump Claimed Lacking Providing Specifics.

Former President Donald Trump has asserted that US forces hit a "major installation" in the South American country last week. However, the former president did not specify the precise nature or location of the strike, and officials have issued no additional clarification from his camp.

Unspecific Comments Made In a Radio Show

"US forces just eliminated – I don't know if you saw – they have a major complex, where the vessels depart from. Two nights ago, we knocked that out. So we targeted them with significant force," Trump reportedly told GOP supporter and businessman John Catsimatidis on Friday.

Possible Implications of a Verified Attack

Should a US strike is confirmed, it would mark the first land strike since the US Department of Defense began a expansion of US strike forces in the region to interdict drug traffickers that the Trump administration asserts operate under the direction of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

The original purpose of the military buildup has since morphed into a blockade aimed at stopping the country's oil exports.

Social Media Footage and Official Statements

Trump has for some time stated that American military units are ready to widen the operations by hitting targets within Venezuela, a strategy that would in theory require legislative authorization.

Online video circulated on social media on 24 December purportedly showed an explosion said to be from an industrial zone in a Venezuelan state. However, the video or the facility has not been corroborated.

An official from Trump's team reportedly informed a media outlet that the former president was referring to a narco-trafficking site in his remarks.

Response and Ongoing Strategic Situation

The Maduro government has issued no statement on the event the former president referenced. Furthermore, there have been no corroborating news from Venezuela concerning it.

The buildup of American forces in the region – a stance certain officials have referred to as a naval quarantine – represents the most expansive naval operation of the Trump era.

Sources have stopped short from labeling the action as a full blockade, but have confirmed that approximately 15,000 troops are stationed across the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, including a carrier strike group, advanced fighter jets, and Coast Guard cutters to enforce existing economic sanctions.
